Positions Available at the National Gallery of Art

Library Technician
NF-1411-06 (Salary range: $33,000 - $42,898 per year)

Major Duties:
The position is located on the Deputy Director’s Staff in the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) office of the Library’s Reader Services Department. The incumbent processes interlibrary loan requests from other libraries and reviews ILL requests received online (via bibliographic networks, such as OCLC and RLIN) and in print (via standard American Library Association [ALA] form). Retrieves materials to be loaned from the stacks and prepares circulation information. Prepares shipments of materials and related shipment forms. Processes interlibrary loan requests to other libraries and verifies information and holdings and prepares requests. Checks library receiving room and mail station for materials sent by lenders; receives borrowed materials and notifies requestor of their availability, terms of loan, and due date. Monitors status of outstanding requests and assists with procedures to ensure timely return of loaned and borrowed materials.


Library Technician (2 vacancies)

Full performance level of this position is GS-08.

Major Duties:
The position is located on the staff of the Deputy Director in the National Gallery of Art Library, Reader Services Section. The incumbent is responsible for circulation operations and services to the curatorial and administrative staff and visitors. Provides general information and instruction on circulation procedures and proper use of Library materials. Maintains system of circulation controls and files for current charges, discharges, renewals, reserves, and recalls which require frequent updating and consolidation of records on the Voyager automated library system. Monitors special loans to borrowers including one-day loans, periodicals, etc. Assists with the maintenance of the Library’s collection and in the retrieval and reshelving of books located in the stacks and other locations. Performs bibliographic checking of Library materials in online and printed sources.




Open House at The Phillips Collection Library and Archives

Please come to an open house at The Phillips Collection on Thursday, September 14, from 3:00-5:00. This is an opportunity for Washington’s art library and archives community to see The Phillips Collection’s library and archives, part of a recently-completed addition to the museum by Washington architects Cox, Graae + Spack that includes new and expanded galleries, a relocated Rothko Room, an auditorium, expanded educational facilities, and a new sculpture courtyard with works by Ellsworth Kelly and Barbara Hepworth.

Books and archival materials focused on Duncan Phillips and the history of the museum will be on display, and guests can enjoy light fare in the museum’s new café, which will remain open until 4:30. Jay Gates, Director of The Phillips Collection, will be on hand to welcome attendees.

Feel free to make an evening of the occasion, and see works from the museum’s permanent collection. The newly-opened Sant Building features selections from the museum’s recent photography acquisitions, including works by August Sander, Aaron Siskind, and Edward Weston, as well as large-scale, post 1950s art. “The Artist Sees Differently: The Story of The Phillips Collection,” a tour of the museum’s permanent collection, is offered at 6 and 7 pm. The museum is open until 8:30 pm.

The Phillips Collection is located at 1600 21st Street NW, at 21st and Q Streets, one block from the Dupont Circle Metro. Use the main entrance, and tell the receptionist that you are here for the library and archives open house.

Part Time Serials Assistant
Dumbarton Oaks Research Library

Performs all duties necessary to receive approximately 900 serials for a distinguished research library with world-renowned multi-language, multi-alphabet collections in Byzantine and Medieval studies, garden history and landscape architecture, and Pre-Columbian studies. Ex Libris’ Aleph is used for all automated functions. This is a part-time position that reports to the Serials & Acquisitions Librarian.

Corcoran Gallery of Art
Circulation Desk Manager

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Corcoran library serves both the College of Art and Design and the Gallery. The Circulation Desk Manager is responsible for the daily maintenance and services provided by the Circulation/Reserves Desk. This position is also responsible for maintenance of the serials collection and stacks, and hires, trains and supervises work-study students. The Circulation Desk Manager reports to the Library Director.
